Projects

It started in the kitchen, at the Chan’s house, over 40 years ago and today, the founding members and supporters of the Strathcona Property Owners and Tenants Association (SPOTA) are being honoured with the unveiling of a mosaic that pays tribute to their efforts in stopping the freeway from being built through their community in the late 1960’s.

The Radius mural represents three distinct communities that converge in the Downtown Eastside: Aboriginal, Chinese and Japanese. The mural was conceived to reflect themes of origin and place, weaving together material gathered from outreach workshops into the design. The team of artists and mentored youth come from each of these communities.

A quartet of four community-based murals sponsored by Britannia Community Services Society and coordinated by Richard Tetrault was painted in East Vancouver in the summer of 2009, marking Britannia High School’s Centennial and celebrating its place within the community
